Next week we might once again be burning our tender flesh in shorts and tank tops beneath the glorious spring sun. But tonight I'll walk my dog in parka and gloves.

This is classic "Serenity Prayer" material: we can't buy, work, lobby, manipulate or sweet talk our way into "normal" spring weather. That leaves us the acceptance task. So today I'm cleaning out my office, making soup and writing a blog.

There's that saying: "Curse your circumstances and they curse you. Bless your circumstances and they bless you." Okay, I'll try. Bless this cold wind shaking the windows while my short-sleeved friends in Texas are sipping iced tea on their porch swings. Bless the snow blowing sideways onto the flower bed -- to torment those tiny little green sprigs. And bless my decision to make my living in Crested Butte as a writer instead of a carpenter.

My next writing task might be a slight addendum to the Serenity Prayer: "God grant me the courage to change the things I can; the serenity to accept the things I can't; the wisdom to know the difference... and a few bucks to skip town in late April when serenity just isn't cutting it any more."
