Well, here we go. New website, new era. And, for me, a major coup that I’m the first in my family to write a blog.
The main goal of this website is to give people who love Crested Butte a virtual dose of this quirky paradise whenever they want it. In the 20-plus years I’ve edited the Crested Butte Magazine, I’ve discovered again and again that if you create a publication for the people who truly care about a place, then first-timers and passers-through will enjoy it more as well. So this website, like the magazine, honors the people who have at least one foot in Crested Butte, whatever their return-address zip code might be.
On this site, we’ll post the current issue of the Crested Butte Magazine (and eventually more archived issues), a rotating show of featured photos, and a blogspot about Crested Butte from the inside. As you read through the magazine, you can access an advertiser’s website by clicking on the ad. You can also more easily contact the magazine staff, from writers to photographers. We’ll add more features to the website as we go; feel free to make suggestions.
Appropriately, it is snowing like crazy outside my window on this October day. Winter’s two-minute warning. Stash the lawn chairs back in the garage, take down the sad hanging flower baskets, fetch the sweaters back out of the attic.
As much as I dread those few minutes of scraping the windshield and shoveling the front walk every morning, I can’t help feeling this kid-like wonder with the first real snow of the winter. We all know that transformation, when the snow overnight makes the mountains more magnificent and the town more storybook quaint.
What a fitting backdrop to the launching of our new website. Here we go...
